Drive-through prayer and jumbotrons in parking lots are options.
Churches across America are planning for alternative means to share their worship experience as congregations are no longer able to meet in person for large gatherings in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
“We want to love people, bless people, and we want them to pray,” said one Texas pastor. “We want to be available to people and serve them.”
A Tennessee church is offering three drive-up services on Sunday where people will remain in their cars, tune their radios to an established setting, and watch the pastor deliver his sermon on a stadium-sized jumbotron.
Another southern pastor said his church will be offering drive-through communion.
Many churches will live-stream their pastors’ messages on websites. Others are offering prayer center hotlines. Churches are still finding means of mobilizing volunteers to help the elderly and vulnerable, to do hospital visits, or deliver food.
One pastor said, “It’s not so much outreach anymore as it is in-reach. The whole church all over the world is being forced to change their methods.”
